Translucent skylights are an outstanding way to introduce museum quality light to a building without compromising the energy efficiency of the structure.  This unique design that incorporates a 2-3/4" fiberglass sandwich panel with internal insulation provides a high thermal value while it allows diffused light to enter the structure.

The panels are made by permanently bonding  durable fiberglass sheets to both sides of an aluminum I-beam grid core The space formed in the grid between the two faces is filled with translucent fiberglass insulation, providing excellent thermal properties.  Higher densities and thermally broken grid cores are available for outstanding insulating properties.

Although the basis of design for the translucent system is very simple, the design alternatives are unlimited.  Panels can be curved and custom sizes and shapes can be fabricated to make a dramatic element for any building.  Because the fiberglass sheets are translucent, they transmit natural diffused sunlight without the harsh glare of direct sunlight.  The special weather-resistant formulation means the finished skylight is practically free of maintenance.

Since the fiberglass panels are lighter than glass and are supported by structural aluminum I-beams, they can span long distances without support.  The structural steel or aluminum substructures can be designed to accommodate a lighter load.

The museum quality diffused light that emanates from a translucent skylight is ideal for school or library environments where quality light is desirable.  This usable light does not require shading devises and will not cause glare on computer screens or television monitors.
